Framing Day 11

Couldn't spend much time today because I was trying to take a conference call while dressed in work clothes, wearing sandals, and had Mara sitting in the car with the AC running because it was about 95 out. Pictures don't look super different, but from what I could tell they'd finished up the 2nd floor walls and door/window/closet headers, etc.  They had hung some of the big LVL beams for the ceilings/attic floor. I'm guessing tomorrow they'll put up floor joists for the attic, maybe start the attic subflooring.

untethered and making me really nervous!

Framing Day 10 - Second floor walls

They knocked out most of the second floor framing today. When I was there, they were finishing up the master bedroom over the garage. The walls for the 2-story family room were done; those are extra long 2x4s (or 2x6s? I don't know), made of composite so they're all perfectly straight for such tall heights.

Framing Day 9 - Second floor subfloor

Crews were busy at work when I went by today. Visually it doesn't seem all that different in pictures, but you'll notice that the first floor is more enclosed. They put down the plywood for the second floor today.  Utilities were also on site (ongoing work for the gas and power trench), and our grader was doing some work on the shoulders of the driveway (which is getting pretty beat up with truck traffic).

Framing Day 8 - Stairs

Framers only worked a half-day today because they already put in full hours. The biggest difference from yesterday is that we now have steps down to basement and up to the second floor. They also put in a steel column in the basement.

Framing Day 7 - Main floor

Again, not a lot of difference from the front view, but some key structural pieces went up today. The steel I-beams in the garage and at the kitchen opening are in, as well as the header for the hallway opening. More second floor joists were added once those were set in place.  Looks like it was a heavy-lifting day. We had showers overnight but I believe it should stay dry most of today so they should be able to work.

Framing Day 6 - Main floor

Rain held off all day (it's pouring right now) so they had another good work day. They got up a lot of the joists for the second floor. The garage headers are in and there's somewhat of a "ceiling" in that area and the front of the house. They added loooots of cross braces to prepare for work on the second floor. Doesn't look too different from yesterday.

Oops, condensation.

Framing Day 5 - Main floor

Ongoing amazement at what a difference a day makes; a whole lot of the first floor framing was done today. The stairwell and family room walls are still to do, but it's a much better sense of the space. We had to make a tweak on a door opening for the study, so that is also incomplete. There's a good chance of rain tomorrow, so we might not get a lot more progress until later in the week.
