Interior trim and tile day 5, Cabinets day 1

Big day yesterday!  Our cabinets arrived and installation started - they got much more done than expected. Most of the kitchen wall cabinets are done and they got most of the bathroom bases done, too. Still have to set the kitchen island and butler's pantry, powder room sink, and master bathroom. Doors and drawers will be adjusted for perfect spacing once everything is in. We chose to use all the same white cabinets throughout the house. I have very plain taste and am hoping for longevity (painted white cabinets always look good to me).

Work continued in the master bath with tile - working on the shower walls. Still waiting for the buddy bathroom walls, too, but they've made good progress. The "bubble" tile mosaic in the basement shower was put in and it looks soooo good!  We love it. It'll look even better with grout.  The tile crew has been working really hard and pulling late hours.

Closet shelving/organizers started yesterday and they got a lot done on those, too. The main floor coat closet, both kid bedrooms, and the upstairs hall linen closet are done. Really exciting to see the progress.

Interior trim and tile day 3/4

No hurricane issues here - we had some heavy rain on Friday but otherwise hardly anything on Saturday and it was gorgeous Sunday and today.  No complaints! We also enjoyed a visit from our good friend Dave, who celebrated his birthday here. Mara and Dave are now BFFs.  We miss you already, Mister Dave!  Friday/Saturday brought more progress for trim and tile. Some of the cased door openings are done, along with more window trim and the stair treads. The screen porch ceiling is up and the permanent front porch posts have been set.  Master bathroom radiant floor heating system went in and floor tiles were laid, too, along with the small brick mosaic tile in the shower floor.  Some of the shower walls are done (Grandmas' room and basement). Tomorrow cabinets start... Guessing the tile should wrap up this week and it looks like closets and other trim might get going. There are new piles of trim materials all over the place.

Interior trim and tile day 2

More inside work today. Baseboards are mostly done. Swing doors are all trimmed; openings with casings haven't been done yet. Windows have started and look great. We are using simple, flat 1x4 legs and slightly thicker 1x6 tops on both windows and doors. Most windows also have a flat wooden stool at the bottom opening. The trim looks nice and substantial. It may seem like a weird thing to be pumped about but the trim is something I've been most excited about!  We are using a simple 5" cove molding for crown in all the rooms, except the study where we will have stained beams and the coffered ceilings which will have a smaller cove to trim out the coffers. Nothing fancy but suits our taste and we think it'll look great. It's hard to see in photos right now because of all the white mud from the drywall. Once rooms are painted it will stand out more.

Tile is down on the buddy bath, laundry room, and grandmas' bath floors. I am super happy with the tile we picked for these rooms. It's called Linden Point by DalTile and we got the Bianco color. We'll use a white grout with it. Same tile will be on the shower walls, too.  The basement shower will have a "bubble" tile floor (mosaic of all circles).  Master bath tile is also by DalTile called Avondale in "castle rock," which is a darker gray. That's still in boxes in the foyer but we look forward to seeing it installed.

There are piles of trim materials sitting around and new today is a stack of oak stair treads for the stairwells. Not sure how much work will get done tomorrow as we sit through a cold front+hurricane tomorrow. We're expecting somewhere around 5" of rain at last check. Since the house doesn't have HVAC running yet and still only using temp power/extension cords, it would be a damp, humid, gloomy work day. But we'll see.

Rusty was able to make it out with a load of gravel to top off the fresh grading in the driveway. That will at least help keep mud at bay.
